Chicago May 8" 1888 H.B. Stone Esq Gen Manager C.B. & Q R.R. City Dear Sir Following please find report of Opr. E.S.G. Friday May 4" 1888 Today at 10 A.M. Opr received the following instructions from Gen Supt R.A. Pinkerton and Asst Supt J.C. McGuire, "go to Grand Pacific Hotel and endeavor to obtain a room on the fist floor and as near as possible to the one occupied by S.E. Hoge chairman of the grievance committee of the striking engineers of the C.B. & Q. RR Co. His room being No 34 and there to form the acquaintance of the Chambermaid who attends to his room for the purpose of having her get from his room any letters that way be lure during his absence from the room and allow us to see them and get a copy of such of items as unclear related to the new engineers that are seen at work on the road.
