4 through Mr. Shirts that if he (Howe) was longer absent Opr. would pay for the balance of the time They left Westfield for Noblesville at 7:30pm. where they arrived at 8:30pm. Opr. saw Opr. C.W. who told him (P.L.?) that he (C.W.) had it fixed for Lloyd, Barnes, Jester, and Robert to go with him (P.L.?) and had them served with subpoenas by the U.S. Marshall. Opr. P.L.? met City Marshall Collier with several friends and as he and others were giving all the points they could Opr. traded and began to make preparations for leaving and on consultation with Opr. C.W. they concluded to give the men $15.00 each and let them buy their own tickets both ways which would be $10.30 and let them get sleeper or not as they pleased, being good people Oprs. wanted to treat them so as to show them that they had confidence in them. As they could not buy a through ticket from Noblesville to Chicago. they paid 95cents symbol to Kokoma and $4.70 from that point to Chicago making the fare $5.65. They left Noblesville at 12am and arrived in Chicago at 7am on the 13th inst. Yours Respectfully Pinkertons Natl Det. Agency By W. A. Pinkerton Gen'l. Supr. W. Div AR
