June 1st 88 Handed NCBrown by Chas Skinner clerk in unclear house Burlington. June 1st 88 stating that the letter had been found.

Grand Pacific Hotel, Chicago, 5-23, '88. To Mr. J. Erickson & S.A. Eads, Burlignton, Ia. Dear SIrs & Bros. Your letter of yesterday received and contents carefully noted. In answer to your question as to whegther the action of the General Grivance Committee which at Chicago on May 17th voted unanimously to never declare the strike off, has been sustaned, we will say that the vote has been taken at every point on the system, and the result is exactly the same as at Burlington - unanimous all over to sustain the action of their committe at Chicago on the 17th While we always believed that the large majority of the men would vote to never declare the strike, we confess that we are surprised to find this vote a unit especially when every man voteded by a secret ballot. You also ask about the financial condition. This problem is solved very satisfactory; in the treasury at Cleveland there is now a surplus of two (200,000) hundred thousand dollars and in the treasury at Terre Haute there is a surplus of one (120,000) hundred & twenty thousand dollars; this fund has nothing to do with the beneficiary fund. The engineers are sure of raising one 100,000
