Yesterday I returned from Brownville with Mr. Sewall having been there a week (Visitation!) The Pis. Co. A. S.Soc. met at Sebec last Wednes. & Thurs. I was at Mr. Sewall's; he went as also to Drs. Wilkins & Kimball etc. Interesting meeting considering number present, which was small. Eight from Bangor. Messrs T.S. Brown, J.E. Godfrey, Thatcher, Curtis, Walker etc. "used for Messrs T.S. Brown, J.E. Godfrey, Thatcher stopped at Brownville to lecture Thurs. eve, and Mr. Curtis came to Milo. Much the best lecture, probably in the latter place. Brown you know, is all for display. Not many present in B. Schoolhouse crowded & more too, in Milo. C. went to Howland last week with another load of Oats. Left them there to sell when price rises. Brought Albina Kittredge home on his way, and carried her back last night through the dreadful drifts, & blow! Say nothing. Don't you open your lips om the subject when you write home nor to any body. D'ye hear? Everett found out there was a little boot due C. from Wm Hamlen for the steers & served another trustee writ! and the same day sent Jo Chase to take Nelly, which is like taking C's eye teeth! Well he 'tacked her, notwithstanding Mother forbid iit as her property, & took it down to the Mills. C. went down and settled all up with Everett, who threw in 12.50 of his account, gave him his note for 3000 to be paid next Sept. He gets back the Brownville lumber, Rider money & Hamlen money. So far so good. C. never meant to pay that you know till all his other debts were paid.
Barker told me yesterday he had rec'd a letter from you & should answer it after you returned to Brunswick. Seems very much gratified. Gave C. his card to send to you. I talk of writing a communications for the Mirror relative
