I should think from his appearance: Have'nt got much acquainted with him yet. He teaches here and at Brownville.
Every thing goes on as usual here. Naomi and Mehitable have gone to Lowell, for which I think the latter especially, together with all her folks are very blameworthy. Barker is teaching high school with eighteen scholars & Albina a low one with 25. Angella Dennett has gone to Boston to spend the winter. I called on her at Bangor. William Dennett has got a very fine woman I concluded. No would be aristocratic gentility about her. Visited at Mr. Pomroy's, and heard him preach several times. Crowder house the first Sab. after his return, many could not get in, no meeting at Hammond St. You have probably seen in the papers all about it. Mrs. Lee and the old Col. himself have go home from Mass. safe and sound. He saw Mr. Pomroy in Boston. Mr. Perkins is dismissed from Royalston church. I am in a sad hurry today and have written anything and everything without stopping to think. Mother will write a few words I guess. I rec'd your good letter the week before I went to Bangor. Thank you much. Write another soon, won't you? Almeda is demurring about going to Mass. to spend the winter. Do write soon Affectionately, Sister Lucy.
I have hardly a heart to write to you. I feel so tryed & troubled that I have nothing more substantial than words to send but I don't know but it will always be just so. I'll try to be thankful that you have so good a faculty and get along so well without. It seems you are very fortunate in getting that school. Do you come in contact with any really Devoted lively Christians nowadays or are there no such beings in the land. 8 week since we have had any preaching except Averill once no society meetings, - Hiram is here yet some expect he will stay all winter. -Chas. not made out to sell the colt yet tried to make a Mr. Pratt Mrs. Weller's Agent take him instead of the oxen but he would not - S.W.F. has tried earnestly & perseveringly but has not made much progress has avowed himself a universalist & has been in a quandary - give it up I guess I don't know [upside down under Lucy's signature] If Almeda goes to Mass. she will leave James here and carry?have? Lucy stay a year with her aunt Rachel which will do the child much good I think. C. got harvesting all done, garden seeds? all in, part of his ploughing done, has worked on the road most all the fall oxen gone now shed not done great deal to get ready for winter as usual.
