know but I ought to. But I have filled my sheet with my own ? without hardly speaking of any one else. I just want to inquire, though about one thing. Mrs. Dudley has proclaimed all about that you had every meal that you was absent, deducted from the price of board, so that they did not have as much by /6 on a week, as they expected for boarding you. Was it so, & if so was'nt it customary & right? You know if one is so disposed they can make ones word or actions appear in a very ridiculous light. Julia Ann Mower told Mrs. Wiley that mine is the best school they have had here for a long time. Probably the next person she saw she ran me down as bad. I did think of going to Foxcroft in the fall, but have about given it up. Money is needed more for something else.

I suppose I can let you have some lucre when my school is done. Don't know how much. Cous? have not been to see me yet. Do write much. Affec'y Sister Lucy. [Bottom of page - upside down] I have not heard from home very lately. You know they are not famous letter writers there. Charles was down here a fortnight ago. Mary Barnes enjoys herself much there. I presume her summer's residence in the country will do her good. You have never seen our little Jane yet. People call her my little girl. I went to the city a week ago with Mr. Sherburne. Saw the boys and did a little shopping. They seem happy enough, though doubtless they have their trials in common with you & I & the rest of mankind. One Mr. Jones, a Prestonian writing master, teacher visiting school in my dormitory now. Fifteen evenings for a dollar Came into school and invited me to go.
