             Mr.Sewall was saying yesterday that in Brownville there had been a great effort made by the methodists to induce the converts to join their church, (something with them, I conclude,as it has been here with the Baptists) and Mr. S. said he had kept silent, let things go on in their own way, and had very little conversation with any of them until requested by their parents. The other day he spoke with Chase Page and some others about the duty of joining some church, asked them why they had not etc. they said they had been trying to be methodists. Let the world know you are a Christian; not only tell them of it, but let them see it by the difference in your character and actions, A half-way christian cannot have much enjoyment in any way. Conscience reproaches them continually - they cannot enjoy the world, even as well as before they before they began to be christians, and they cannot derive that happiness from God which they could, if they lived in more constant communion with him. I know I do not have so much, not near as much happiness & enjoyment of religion as I might have & should have if I was more devoted in the service of God, more faithful in duty, more content & fervent in prayer, & less taken up with the trifling & foolish things of earth. And yet my heart is so prone to sin, so forgetful of God, that notwithstanding I know the trouble & sorrow it occasions, I am so often led astray, that I am often led to fear for myself & almost think it impossible that I have ever truly given my heart to God. I entreat you, Isaac never to neglect secret prayer - prayer is the life of the soul. If secret prayer is neglected the heart
