Dear Mother

                              It is evening. Samuel has stopped out to see Mr. Tebbits fix his posts in the wood shed. Eliab has gone to hear Prof. Pond lecture before the Corban Society upon ghosts. Frances is on the old track - "May I have a sheet of paper" - writing to her Mother up stairs. A nice fire is burning, and all things are very comfortable.
                              Samuel has been recording his Mother's death in the large bible, which reminded me that the date of Willie's death is not recorded - will you please write when he died. A letter from Minn. today. Mrs. Crosby and Rufus called. None of Mr. Page's folks in today! Mrs. Brown, the Mother of the young Hampden man who was robbed of his California at Boston, died last week--has not been well since the death of her son. I want to hear how James got home.
                          I have been wearing for two days, a spine supporter which a lady Agent for King's "  " left here for me to try. I like the feeling of it much - it is a perfect support to the back & bowels, with shoulder braces connected. - keeps the spine perfectly erect, and feels beautifully, but according to Dr. Fitch's theory of pressure & warmth upon the spine being injurious, it must

I don't know how much we can eat.
