I desire on my part to rejoice with trembling and to live so as to be in some good measure prepared for whatever awaits me. I do not doubt but severe & fiery trials are often, to the Christian, made, through the power & love of Christ great blessings even in this world. - We rejoice with you in dear little Percie's recovery: I have felt much anxiety- feared that each letter would bring sad news about him: his escape is a narrow one. I am glad Ellen is there yet hope she continues good. We are, & have been very well: I have been quite busy as usual, or rather, more than usual - have had company the last four or five weeks. Our son Dewees & wife have been with us two weeks he has an admirable wife, about 22 - fine looking, sensible, intelligent, always gentle, placid and low-voiced, yet with much effeciency and strength of character. We think him rich in his companion: they have just lost their youngest, one year old - the other little one is here with them two & a half years old; he is a sweet little fellow with eyes black & round, & bright as diamonds: his name is Elijah but is called Lida. The son Dewees, left home four years ago & has never been home until now. - was married the day he was 21; he has a good farm somewhat improved, on the prairie at Providence Reserve Co. where Lizzie Doe's brothers are: Mr. Thaxter has
