scarlet fever prevailing among children one or two have died. Mrs. Darling has been very sick for three or four weeks past, her baby is six weeks old. Rollin's family are pretty well he comes regularly every sabbath eve & spend a short time before meeting time: he is much changed, has lately taken a class in Sabbath School - his youngest boy four months old is a fine child. Isaac's family are well, Nettie is in good condition & very well: Wilder is a dear little fellow & quite an original in his way. Charlie is a great nice looking boy Eliab has told all about them I suppose Libby has weak eyes again quite bad, she went to school all last term but will not probably go any more at present. I occasionally read George Putnam's letters to Nettie should judge him an interesting man: he seems to throw himself right out into the world of men to set his part & do something & this course leads to success, generally, I have not heard from Almeda for a very long time; she owes me one or more letters. I mean to write to her before long. I am glad Libby is attending school at the village but her standard of attainments will not be likely to be very elevated if formed solely upon models found there. Has she much ambition to make much of herself? Was the natural qualities to render her interesting to others? We feel much gratified at the prospect of sending Hattie
[left-side see previous page] [upside down at top] Hattie sent me a very pretty Marseille collar in her last letter she had embroidered with red & white beautifully done.
