Elyria Sept. 15 1854 Dear Mother Lucy & all the rest of the dear people We were very glad to get a letter from you last evening I have thought of you almost continually the last week anxious to know how you all are your letter rejoiced our hearts in giving us such good report of the sick & convalescent. We are so glad that you are doing something for poor little Percie. The doctor I find felt a great deal of concern about him when we were there. He saw his state & knew the danger yet did not feel at liberty to say much, feared that this suggestions would seem like interference while yet he knew perfectly well that it was important to health & even life to apply speedy & active remedy. he is relieved that he is now under treatment by a physician who understands his case says he needs internal alternatives of such kind as is found to work most favorably & external friction of the skin, an intimate conversion & sympathy between the capillaries of the skin & those of the liver the reason his food does not nourish him the secretions of the liver are not healthy no bile in his stools in order to resume healthy action he should be rubbed with alcohol two or three times a day wet with it freely with cloth or sponge then a strong hand should rub the skin till it burns & is all in a glow & especially [across the top left to right] Do write often all of you; tell particulars about Percie & what you are doing for him. Is Charles going to stay into the winter? Love to all I will write again after getting Mallie's letter she must be careful.
