Boston Nov 19 1835 Dear Mother We received your's of Nov 4th in due season and we ought to have answered it immediately, and I thought A. was going to from day to day, but she says to night that she can't now, so I thought I would write what I could this evening and send it without more delay. We are all perfectly well; Lucy has been well ever since you went, (she got better immediately) but her mind is not so much upon her studies as it was last summer she is devoted to play, she would like to play from morning to night, & like all other little girls every thing else is irksome to her I am not sure but it would have been the way of duty for you to have taken her home with you for I am afraid the benefit to her will not balance the expense and sent Isaac here instead, he could help A. so much that Almeda could take him at a less price, and it would be a lasting and decided benefit to him. James & Almeda think they can't afford to take Isaac for less than it would cost them, and they say it would actually cost (washing etc.) as much as $1 2/4 per week, Almeda says that L's board costs more than $1.25 every week, that she don't need his help at all, and that she considers she is actually giving it, but she says she and James are willing to give one of the children their board to go school, all the time, but can't have but one at a time. etc. It does not seem just so to me about Lucy, though to be sure Almeda could get along with out her as well as not, and it takes expense and time to keep her decent here, but if you had taken Lucy home you could afford to pay a low price for Isaac's board, and then would not be so much obligation felt; as the one of the children's having their board given them I don't wish it, nor should not consent to it If it was not so late in the season I should decidedly think best to send L.
