E. DeWitt Dec. 22nd 58 Elyria December 22nd 1858 Dear Mother Anna has just finished a letter to you and numbering my ? in this behalf I am now to make my bow and say in a word that where one has to write letters every day of his life numbering from 2 to 20 a day or say about 2000 a year and copy them and put them up and superscribe them letter writing becomes some what like work. and then I have as you know but very little to say that Anna cannot say much better than I can myself. I do not remember but one or two things which may interest you that Anna has not said. Bro Isaac has made a purchase of about 40 acres of good wood land about 3/4 of a mile from his house in the ease of Carlilse Township, and on the outer Avenue, or rather on a road which is in a line with the outer Avenue, South has made a good bargain I think. And Isaac and we, that is to say Me and my wife Anna, have raised the money and this day sent for one of Wheeler & Wilson's Sewing Machines to be owned family, and now perhaps Anna & Nettie will be taking in work, we shall see if you have any thing in this line you wish to put out to be done of course in the best manner, and speak soon & over [up left side] I send a cute feather duster by Eliab a queer gift to send so far I thought it pretty & thought it would be convenient for you in your room please accept-- Anna
