10th August Weele, John Watts and Double Head with several of the other Chiefs called on Colo Hawkins and delivered this Talk in behalf of themselves and the Chiefs of the River Towns. "Colonl Meigs sent us the Invitation of the President to come and meet his Commissioners here on the 1st of this month, we have come accordingly and we have with us a representation from our part of the Nation. We have been here several days, waiting for the arrival of the Commissioners, you are come but we cannot hear of your colleagues and it appears now quite uncertain when you will have a meeting. The Chiefs who are to convene at Oostenauleh sent us unclear an invitation to go there, of course we suppose they have no need of our council. We will return home. We have taken the letter of the President, from soon after your first coming among us, and as you have come through our nation you can see and know we have done so. so shall now return home
