We arrived this evening on the Bank of what is termed Sand Creek, a good name and proper. We had to dig a hole in the center of its Bed of some 3 or 4 feet to find what is usually found in other Creeks water. and having succeded We found it very sulphurous, but had to put up with it. The Horses also refused to drink until necessary and then very sparingly. this we are told is the character of all the water on this route. We took 7 Bags of grass along with us from the flats of the Platt so this night our horses had something to eat. Nothing grows here excepting Artemesia Cactus and a Weed resembling at a little distance fine grass but perfectly useless as fodder horses will not touch it. in the creek bottom cotton wood is found pretty abundantly so fuel was had this evening in abundance. Laramie Peak to the N.W. and from Line of the Blk hills Language cannot convey the sublimity of the sight. Pikes peak stood south and seemed much further the top of the peak could only be seen raising above the high table land before us it appeared like a small cloud touching the hills.
