for our teams in the city Hannibal altho we offerd 20p per/ea? bale they say that 2p for small bales is the price when there is any in the city. about 9 o'clock a Thunder Storm came up and a little Rainfall for about 60 miles of the way. Weather all day often fairly hot the party all well May 27 Thursday! we arrived here this morning all well. Most of the party formed their Beds on the floor of the unclear Cars all? last night and slept well. the weather here today is very oppressive, altho there is quite a breeze and plenty of dust and it is amazing? to see the yellow sand of the Missouri River banks rising up in clouds and looking almost like cloud of gold and flying to the west. We are disappointed? in the appearance? of the Missouri it has not the Majestic appearance we expected to find. the Mississippi from Quincy to Hannibal is much better. Still we thought the Father of Waters was rather smaller than represented generally. 28 Monday Today we are very bussy getting our things packed on the wagons for a path? across the Missouri. The weather a little better but warm and dreadful windy so much so that the ferry boat was blown on a sand bar this evening and we were unable to get across. Party all well. Thermometer? 89 29 Tuesday we crossed the River this morning with difficulty, being to heavy loaded we met a little accident with our unclear unclear waggon axle which detained us 1/2 a day. the Roads are excelent nothing can be fr...g? Thermometer? 71 30 Wednesday We camped? last night some 12 miles West of the river. Loading constant? unclear we are to heavy loaded. Road good grass plenty. at 12 today we are oblige to leave some 800 unclear of our luggage in storage.
