  The hills & valleys are covered with flowers. The number & familys of which is wonderful Yet then are in this vicinity.  Scarcely any birds & no game at all. I took a ride today of at least 15 miles - Saw one hawk, one robin, about a dozen sparrows & 3 unclear ground squirrels. Beautiful as it is
