June 26 - Saturday - Fred made his first effort at shooting - He is naturally very timid - having been brought up entirely by women & had as nervous a feeling about firing off a gun as I have about going into a dentist's chair - He fired eight shots at piece of paper - 5 with rest & 3 off hand, at about 30 yds- & rather to my astonishment hit every time - He is delighted & talks about going out squirrel shooting
