gentle slope & up a gentle slope & got onto the next ridge only to find another at our same level still in advance - After going on & on until we had thus passed four ridges & seeing nothing but ridges still in advance the affair became seriously monotonous - There seemed no end to the ridges. We had fully demonstrated the impracticability of this route for though it might be passed with wagons it would be with extreme difficulty by unclear teams.
