Sabbath Dec. 13th 1863 DuQuoin Perry Co. Illinois I believe I have not written anything about the weather lately The first week I was here, it was the most beautiful of beautiful Egyptian weather all the clear mild cloudless days, day after day alike. Monday Night 7th it clouded up at night and rained on the night. And it has not cleared off yet! There has been little rain till today, but constant mild warm cloudy weather. Very comfortable weather, here you know we do not have much mud - have dirt instead - the sheets are made of coal slack, all sidewalks are of this material, which is perhaps as good as any gravel. But there is a blackness to it, and an imperceptible shade thereof will follow the feet on to the carpets &c. This forenoon at the Presbyterian Church Old Mr Stafford preached to about 15 persons. If it does not clear off I do not know what the audience will be this evening. It really rained very hard awhile this morning
