Metcalf [right-hand side] I have had bad sore eyes more than a week but I believe they are getting over it first a little sore in the corner. then I hurt them studying while they were sore Mr. W. has a farm, 4 acres, out a little, I work on it Wed. et Sat. [Bottom of page, upside down] The Brown boys have got summer Jackets? page torn, thing looks Sattinett, or something, just as tight ?page torn ? with high velvet collars done round the neck. Palm leaf hats are now much numbered? Teus. May 28th At Asa Walkers, I moved here last night. I am to work in the garden, do chores etc. I think I have got an excellent place. Mr. W. appears to be a very pleasant man. [next line is folded and torn--only words decipherable] a young man, who is studying law with him, a very pleasant clever fellow. Mr. Walker prays in his family. belongs to Mr. Pomroys church. his cow gives 14 qts. of milk per day, have bread and milk to eat, his corn, beans, peas, turnips, potatoes etc. are up and growing. Mr. W. is close by the school-house, right across uncle Nats garden. I have got to speak tomorrow and write Sat. dont the grass grow. Charles waggon has been standing in C. et H. yard, all day. I have only been able to learn that 2 men came in it and went to Stillwater. Why did they not bring my bundle spose? We have got most of Aeneid. Mrs. Parker is very feeble indeed, not expected to live for great while. Mr. Walker's sister does the work here now. A Mrs. Dutton is also here. She used to be acquainted with you, she says. I cant see why you dont all of you write more, better, particularly, etc. James Walker is rale clever young man I guess. 30th What a rain!
