Dear Sister Lucy

    We have very much expected you up here this week, and have concluded that we were disappointed only on account of the extreme Rain of yesterday
 By the way this renewed rain is very bad for brother Charles and other farmers in this region. { Very Wet River up on the Intervale every few days} Charles has neither planted or sowed yet. His ground was just getting dry, and, he had got about ready to plant, when comes this great rain of Thurs. night, Friday entire, and this morning continued, and delays indefinitely.
  Well - but, I am writing this in supposing that as you are not up this week, you will be next, and I want you to bring up some things I have in your house.  It appears quite probable that I may continue to remain here as of heretofore - If it were not for Joseph's case, I should now, or rather long since, not be here.  As it is, I hardly feel justified in leaving him in his present state, except on some very urgent call and plain indication. I am able to remain here this summer. Eliab or I, - I judge, must. You hardly realise perhaps how much he has failed since you saw him. He cannot now move his foot or turn in bed, without help etc.
  All things considered, I have concluded to remain here until more especially obliged to leave. I somewhat wish my Trunk was here, but perhaps it is only best to have some things put in my valise and brought up. I want especially a pair of Shoes which are there. Also "Gray's" and "Bigelow" Botanys.

Perhaps also papers, writings and other books from my trunk Bring up any thing you think I may want, that there is chance to bring, especially a think Neck cloth, perhaps, Linen or anything else. If I do stay here I am good mind to have my Trunk sent up, but no Matter.

  Joseph his Bran Meal and Crush Wheat are about gone, and I suspect he expects to receive renewed portions thereof from Bangor, through you folks.
