Oct. 14, 1888. My dear Anna, It is with great pleasure that we peruse your letter. It has been so long since you have written home. I was sorry not to be with you last week but I was prevented. Lizzie went away Thursday morning and Sarah wanted me to spend Wednesday with her as that was the only time we three were together. Also, I am having my annual cold and felt very dull and stupid. Other reasons I could give but these are enough. I hope to live long enough and feel well enough to spend many pleasant visits with you, but not just now. I wish I could help you mend and help you in other ways. I have always anticipated helping you so much but have not done any thing as I have hoped. Well, never
