pented the Lord that he had made man upon the earth. Object of the discourse to reconcile these apparently opposing declarations of God's word. 1. Consider what is implied in repentance. 1. A change of heart purpose. 2 A change of heart. 3 A change of personal? conduct, as a fruit. 2. Consider in what sense God does not repent. He does not change his purpose. He does not change his heart. 3. In what sense does he repent? but He changes in relation to his external action on the dealings of his Providence. He only seems to man to repent It is in this sense only that the term can be applied. We find illustrations of God's change of providence or treatment of man in the case of the antediluvians, Pharaoh, the cities of unclear and Gomorrah?, and the rebellious Israelites. This subject shows 1. The wisdom of trusting and obeying God. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. 2. It shows the folly of forgetfulness of God, and disobedience to his commands. Sept. 7.
