Aug 22. Sabbath Not very well did not attend meeting in the morning - went in the afternoon and heard a sermon from Psa 80-16. But I fear I did not profit by it. My thought were everywhere but where they should be - How angry minds & God be with me. Oh, may I repent truly and turn from my evil ways to my God. I do wish to see my sinfulness and feel it I do wish for more of the influences of the Holy Spirit and for a Spirit of ardent prayer. Aug 23. Ch for God's blessing to day without his presence I can do nothing. I need that wisdom wh. is from above wh. is profitable to direct. May God's blessings rest on my dear parents and brothers as they begin this week - I have reason to be very thankful to you for the kind ones I meet here. Dr. D. one of the physicians here comes by often to supply with all the medicine I need and seems to feel quite an interest in me and Miss Beacher's enterprise. He has left me some medicine hope it will do good. Aug 26. Mr. Knapp's people come for me at the close of school. Three ministers were there who wanted some music because they saw the melodian I did what my poor abilities enabled me to do. One was quite an old gentleman and had once been a congregationalist. He said to me the first words I ever had said to me on the subject of Baptism - very anxious indeed that I shd. examine the Bible carefully and prayerfully and he knew I would be a Baptist. Aug 28. This afternoon Miss Roberts unclear with Mrs Lens to meeting I am very grateful that I came here occasionally I had only a very short time to converse with her wish I could be here longer. Oh for a closer walk with God, A calm and heavenly home, A light to shine upon the road. That leads me to the Lamb.
