unclear made the recipient of two very acceptable gifts. One, a beautiful yellow canary singer from a young lady; the other, a handsome, brass cage from a dear old friend. Both bird & cage I shall value very highly, coming as they do from such an interesting source; & they will probably ornament our sitting-room for a long, long time. My beautiful bird has this name -- Dom Pridro. The appellation is rather singular, I think; but still it is new & pretty. He shall receive every care & attention from the loving hands around me; & I want him, in due season, to warble forth the sweet notes that God has evidently given him, just as I want the musical world to sing the simple words that the same wise & gracious Father has given me to write & send forth.
