Saturday July 5 1879 I had intended to go to Boise City by stage and buy my riding horse and pack horse there and my little outfit as well, but a man from Boise advises me to buy my horses here as they can be purchased here much cheaper - So I set about looking for horses - Returned to Lagrand early in the forenoon with my livery team, saw several horses for sale but did not quite like the price

Sunday July 6 1879 Went over to Mr Goldsberrys, and saw several horses he had mentioned to me and bought a riding horse saddle and right? of one Mr Tom Childess

Monday July 7 Again returned to Lagrand, and directed Mr Gouldsberry to buy a certain grey mare we had seen, but whose owner was not at home, leaving the money with him to pay for it

Tuesday July 8 1879 Returned to Gouldsberrys and he had bought me a very good horse for $40 - but not the one I had wished him to buy - However I took the two and am now ready to go

Wednesday, July 9 1879 Reached Lagrand early in the day and completed my outfit, it taking longer and being more bother to find and buy a packsaddle than all else
