64 of all races but the majority being from Parents of forign [sic] birth The Sunday School Catechism was peculiar and about as follows Who was our first Prophet - (ans by all [?hands?] Joseph Smith Was he a good man Yes Sir Was he a Christian Yes Sir Did he teach the word of God Yes Sir Was he killed Yes Sir How was he killed By a mob Who was killed with him Prophet Hiram Who was Joseph Smiths Sucessor Brigham Young Is he a good man Yes Sir Is he a prophet of the living God Yes Sir Do you believe what Brigham Young does is right Yes Sir Do you believe he is a christian Yes Sir Is he good to the Church Yes Sir When your parents send you to church you will not laugh and talk will you No Sir When your Parents send you to school you will go there and be quiet and obey your teachers wont you Yes Sir and so on to an indefinite length The questions being asked by one of the Superintendents and answered by the whole school at once

  The church building which by the way is tithing house, Fort, Ball room &c was crowded after the sabbath School was over and with several other travellers we went in to hear the word of God promulgated by these poor benighted heathens who are taught nothing
