Memoranda Jan 1st Very cold & unpleasant Spent the entire day in my tent. At night went to the Generals to a Reunion. Fine drunken time. A good many there. Fine table Plenty to drink Dancing. Staid untill two o clock in the morning QM Quarter Master & Lieut Mills disgracefully drunk. Paid mess acct to date (Jan 2) Another cold day. Unclear tent all day. Slept some to make up for last night. Commenced the reading of "Peculiar" by Epes Sargent. Caught cold and feel not very well today Relieved Lieut Mills & detailed Lieut Wakeman as AAA[unclear] Retire early J —E B— XX $2— Jan 3rd Rainy & unpleasant. Am feeling first rate. Rode up town intending to call upon Mrs. Grove but the rain prevented. Called at the Genls House Col Milloy. Saw Cadle & learned Genl Sul Crocker was in town. No news—no letters & no papers. My "Sky [unclear]" left this morning I think. Retire early to read in bed. Grizzly is quietly sleeping
