June 10th March at 9 o'clock we march for Wyoming we see two moniments by the Road Side on the one wrote the place where Cap Davis was Barbarously murdered by the Savages on the other was wrote the Blood of Lt. Jones which fresh appeared those Gentlemen who after weeks before was marching a small party of men and when they came to this spot they saw a Dear ran a cross the road but a small distance from them. it was their misfortune with five of the soldiers to pursue the Deer into the wood who all fell a Sacrifice to the Savages who it seems had laid in Ambush for them. Both Officers & Soldiers belonged to the 11 Pensylvania Reg. We March into the town in very good order at one o'clock and joyfully mett our friends who had bin forward on Detatchment who had an excellent Dinner Provided for us we all dined togather at 3 o'clock we encamp in the North part of the town- we tarry in this place untill the 29 of July in which time we become Acquainted with many of the inhabitants who would often entertain us with their misfortunes they having been totally destroyed by the Savaejes we had opportunity to view the ground where the unfortunate Battle was fought on July 1778 which Place Might well be called a Golgotha. we here found the Bones of Many whose flesh had Consumed above Ground indeed there was scearcely A Day but there was Brought to our View Scull Bones and other Bones which were found on the field where the Battle was fought - the land at this place is exceeding good but appears the inhabitants would soon made themselves wealthy had they been let Alone by the Savages & Tories but the men was Chiefly Butchered by them. I was Informed there was two hundred and sixty Widdows made in four small towns that lay joining in one Day Besides. Many A Mother was left to leament the loss of her Sons Some of which was Murdered before their Eyes - Indeed the town affords but A Maloncaly Prospect & its inhabitant wore A Mask of Sorrow.
