                        Three additional Companies of Cavalry and two of Infantry are ordered to you.  This is the best that can be done and gives you Eight Cavalry Companies for the field.  Eleven of the wagons sent can be detained.  Forty thousand Carbine Cartridges ordered to you.  Clothing is also ordered.
             Let me know what more you require and the quantities.  Col. Miles commands the Column from Camp Supply, embracing the Sixth Cavalry.

              Your letter of the 13th. ultimo, with its Enclosures have been received and submitted to the Commanding General who direct me to reply as follows:
                          It appears from Capt. Clous' letter that during the services of a Veterinary Surgeon, necessary with his horses, he applied to the Commdg. Officer for authority to hire one.  This was refused.  That instead of then representing the case to Department Headquarters, he entered into an irregular arrangement with Dr. Fletcher, a Veterinary Surgeon, to attend his horses and to run his changes of getting pay therefor: - thus
