109 605. BUELL, G. P. [left margin] August 5. 1874. Lt. Col. 11"Inf [left margin] Dear Colonel Buell,
You will receive by this mail copy of an order sending you four Companies of Cavalry from Concho and directing you to send two to Fort Sill. Sent them at once without waiting for the arrival of those from Concho. Release Keyes and put him in command of his Company. Wyou will receive by this mail also my action in the case of your trouble with him. Send with the Companies to Griffin the Carbine ammunition belonging to them. Such of their other property as cannot be taken on the wagons allowed, must remain at the Post. With the twenty wagons sent you from Concho and those at your Post, it is hoped you will be able to make out until Colonel Mackenzie meets you, when you will be supplied from his trains. I am glad you were not obliged to avail yourself of your sick leave, as you will have a handsome Command and MacKenzie is desirous to have you. You will start with four Companies of Cavalry and two of Infantry, leaving at the Post one Company of each arm, which is regarded as sufficient for the present. You will take your Indian Scouts. Schwan is a good Officer, I judge to leave in command of the Post, but you can leave whom you chose. Dr. Culver is ordered to you, to accompany your Command. Orders will be sent you when to move with your column and what shall be your route. Hire good citizen teamsters, if possible for your trains. Very respectfully Your obdt. servant (Sgd) C. C. Augur Brigadier General Commanding
