I have the honor to inform you that I have been directed by the Honorable, the Secretary of War, to restore to the Mexican Government the Arms, deposited by Colonel Pedro A. Valdez of the Mexican Army at Fort Duncan in march 1872, and to request that you designate some person to receive the arms from Lieut. Colonel W. R. Shafter, 24th U. S. To save forage and trouble Lt. Col Hatch 4" Cavalry has sold at auction the ponies recently captured by Hudson. They brought $634.00, they were sold on condition, if claimed, by the owner, they would be given up. He proposes to deduct from this the amount of forage issued to them by the Government and divide the balance between the men who captured them. (Sgd) C. C. Augur Brig. General
