Your dispatch received. The Indians will be started for Gibson as soon as roads will permit, it rained heavy last night. I did not withdraw my opposition to return of Prisoners, for consideration for the Indians, but for the Mexican authorities, who are doing their best to effect the removal of the Indians. If it succeeds, all right, if not, it secures the active Cooperation of the Mexican authorities in forcing them out and permission for our troops to operate against them in Mexico, which might be more valuable than the possession of the prisoners. Williams is objectionable to the Indians as Commissioner and they will not permit him to speak in Council.

Indians have been in about the heads of Sabinal and Frio, cannot say whether they are from Mexico or the North. MacKenzie is now after them, if MacKenzie finds a trail of marauders, Mexican or Indian, leading into Mexico, shall he follow it there, if prepared? I am satisfied from letters received and forwarded this morning that the Kickapoos will not leave Mexico willingly.
General Escobedo with Fourth Division Mexican Army is reported on its way to line of Rio Grande.
