Your letter of January 16. last, has been received, reporting the bringing in by the Comanches of another Captive, Flores, and of all the animals required of them by the Government.
I am much gratified at this evidence of good intentions and hope, that they will give us no more trouble. The Indian prisoners, whose names you sent, will be released and sent to you, as soon as the boys reach Fort Concho.
With regard to your suggestions that an Officer of this Department with a few prominent Texans and Mexicans, should go to your place, to have a talk and an understanding with these Indians, concerning their future conduct in reference to Texas and Mexico - I have to say that, while I have no doubt of the good results of such an interview, I do not well see how it can be practically carried into effect, except through the Agency of the General Government. I regret very much to hear that you are relieved from your Agency; while I fully understand, that the place has no attractions to you, I can also see that the public service is to be a loser by any change, however worthy may be your successor.
