Captain,

           General Augur directs that you change your present route to Fort Brown, and proceed there via Forts McIntosh and Ringgold Barracks, at Fort McIntosh you will consult with the Commanding Officer and possess yourself of all the information he may have respecting the presence of armed Mexicans on this side of the river.  It is reported there is a band at or near La Pena, Zapate County, under the control of one Munoz.  Should you believe from all the information you can obtain, that there is a band of armed Mexicans anywhere on this side of the river, you will take proper measures to arrest and disarm them and turn them over, as prisoners, to Ringgold Barracks, or Fort Brown, if nearer to that post.  At Ringgold Barracks you will make report of what you have done up to that time and give all information you have gathered respecting the troubles along that frontier.
              As forage is scarce at Fort McIntosh, you will take as little from the post as possible - none in fact, if you can purchase on the road.
