Richmond Feb 4th 1865 My dear Mother. Maj. Ambler tells me of an opportunity to send a letter to you so I will not loose it. We are quietly established in our quarters, in Rich. unclear & this far get along very well. It seemed under the circumstances the only thing left for us to do. & here we shall stay until weather & roads? will enable us to return to you provided they leave you in a condition to receive so many unclear your family. I see they have lately made a raid into Leesburg & into Warrenton?. I hope they may not have reached you. My letters from? Carolina were not less earnest than sermon?
