90 a close, only mention some few things concerning those of our christian Indians that have not beene imployd in the warre being not capable therof, som by reason of age, & farr the greatest part beeing women & chidren But yet for Religion these are farre the greater part of the religious staid at home. When their able men were for the generality drawne forth to the warr, the Rest being neare fower hundred old men women & children, were left upon Long Island in a word crossed out suffering State It was intended they should plant corne upon the Iland & in order therunto, they made some preparations expending their Laubor upon clearing & Breaking up ground, But som English, that lived on these Ilands & had interest there, were unfriendly to them & discouradged them, But the Authority of the country did interpose, for their quiet yet the poore indians were discoradged & in want of all things almost except clams which food (as som concurd) did ocasion fluxes & other diseases among them, beesides they werre very mean for clothing & the Islands werre bleak with cold with sea winds in Spring & the place afforded littl Fewel & their wigwams were mean. In this condition of want & sicknes they were after their men] were sent forr to the warr untill mid may, then God was pleased to molify the harts & mynds of men toward them by littel & littel partly by the true reports brought to the Generall court, of their distressed estate & the great unlikely hood they were to plant or reape any corne at the Island & partly from the sucess God was pleased to give to their Brethren abroad in the Country Service, in so much that the harts of many were in a degree chainged to these christian Indians & the General court then sitting
