                               Washington D. C.    July 3rd 1875

Dear General

              I arrived here on Friday last and find that I shall be detained until after the fourth, before I can get through with the business I am on.    I saw Taylor yesterday, he has resigned and it is accepted to take effect Jan. 1st 1871, in the meantime he does not expect to come back to Sill.   Armes is dismissed and Kennedy is promoted Captain to fill the vacancy.   I called on Gen'. Sherman yesterday, he inquired particularly after you, also McCoy.    I have not seen Gen'l. Parker, but have heard that he and the other officials here are well pleased with your administration of affairs at Ft. Sill.  I am sorry to learn that the Indians have been committing depredations about the post since I left.  I called to
