                       I was truly glad to learn of your promotion to the Command of the Dept. and get Hafe [underline] that the Star [underline] may yet rest upon your Shoulder where it so justly [underline] belongs.   I sent you a paper the other day just to inform you that I was still alive and as usual defending the rights [underline] of the Indians & fighting the cattle & sheep men.   I telegraphed Washington for Troops  and last evenings Pendleton Paper says "Troop "F" started for here from Walla Walla yesterday (36 miles) so Ill get [underline] them and intend to use [underline] them (if necessary) when I do get them.  Unless Pres Harrison lets
