Camp Safford Texas, June 1, 1880.

My dear General,

                                   We arrived out here all safe & well on the 17th of last month.  Maxon & Esterly met us at Delaware Ck. There was no water in Wild Horse Tanks, Maxon having come over for grass of which there is very [underline] little & very poor round Camp owing to Marr's sheep - The [strike] young grass has not come up yet as there has been no rain here.
  On arrival of courier from Davis Maxon started out that night after the Indians who were reported as having committed depredations in Bass Canon, he
