Thursday Jan 1st 1863

Weather not very good - I arose early and arranged things for my new years reception. My boy Sheridan awoke with a swelled cheek. Eva very unwell with cold. my best servant and cook Nancy sick in bed - My sister, myself, man Oliver Rebeckah, Isaac and Louisa all my servants - were very busy making good things. Mr Badger made the Egg Nog. It was very fine at ten O.clock everything was ready - and friends began to come. Jim waited on the door - servants all black. I received very many gentlemen - had a fine bunch of music playing all day - 3 round tables in the parlour - filled with good things. in the afternoon ladies and their husbads called. and at seven many young ladies & Gentlemen arrived and we danced untill 2 Oclock in the morning - at eleven we had a fine supper - every one seemed to enjoy themselves. we had a fine time - Eva quite sick - it rains

Friday Jan 2nd

It looks like snow. Eva a little better. I received a letter from Pa -- all well at Louisville. I very busy arranging things all to day. children feasting themselves I wrote home -

Saturday Jan 3rd

This is a very pleasant day Sister Virginia & I going shopping we returned late. all well but Eva she and Sheridan I think have mumps

Sunday Jan 4th

It is a beautiful day. I went to Church with Mr Badger in the afternoon I went with him. Albert Octave & Brackett to Father Badgers. the boys dined with us. Alice Hilton is spending day with us - also night

Monday Jan 5th 1863

Mrs Warner - also Miss Redmond came to see me. we all well but Eva & Sheridan they complaining. I went down street for a little while. Sister Licinia Ellen & Melville took tea with us Mr Badger has getlemen here talking about Unitarian sunday school. he gone out with them. Alice will stay all night

Tuesday Jan 6th 1863

This is another fair day - we all well - Sister Virginia Mr. Badger & myself went to Mr Browns daughters wedding - there was a large crowd - everything passed off nicely - they were married by Rev Patterson she received many gifts. Mrs unclear my home & Miss Mark called

Wednesday Jan 7th 1863

Sister Licinia not here to day - weather good - I went to Mrs Beechers church Sociable. we danced and enjoyed it, Mr Badger received a pretty book mark from Miss H. Clark -

Thursday Jan 8th

Weather looks like snow. Mrs Peck, Mrs Jones called also Misses Forsyths, Mrs & Miss Gurnee, Mrs Morris Mrs Mc Cormick Mrs Winston - Mr Badger going to Church - David came this morning
