Friday Dec 26, 1862

It has been a rainy day-and damp- Belle is suffering much to day with Earache- Mrs Haywood Miss Ellen and two children came Mary Breed also called so did Mr & Mrs HemmingMr Mum & Mrs Harrison - Belle suffered so much with earache that Ma sent for Dr. Blogers- he spent a long time with us. Belle had her earache more sever than I ever saw any one-

Saturday Dec 27th

Eva Ada & Sheridan went to dancing school in the morning I went down street- at 3. O clock Sister Virginia & I went to dancing school and took all the children. they all danced fancy dances- Belle much better to day - there runs a full house and fine band of music Sheridan amused all by his dancing so cunning children went to Hunts and and spent the evening -

Sunday Dec 28th

Another lovely day- Weather warm- I went with all the children to Mrs Heywoods CHurch- after church went to see Mrs Page- Sewing Julia & Fredricka came to see us Josh Speus? came to see children- Mr & Mrs Danforth came to see me- my nurse Ellen sick to night- intense excitement prevails in the city to day- John Morgan- has had a fight 20 miles from here- and taken many of the Federals- they are again fortafying the City- Mr Badger gone out -

Monday Dec 29th

It is glorious weather- after breakfast I took a hack and went to return visits- called on Mrs Morris- Gray- Jane - Peary^ Hast. Hunt. Henning- Elliott- Mason- and then returned home children went to say good Bye to some friends- my Sister Mrs Faulds much to the surprise of us all- made up her mind to return with me- and in two hours she and her two children were packed- at one we got into the Omnibus and started for Chicago- my Mother was sad at parting with us- we got along nicely with our trip until half way when baby Alpheus Shreve had the colic- after we got into the sleeping car at Indianapolisa all went right- and we reached Chicago at ten O. clock Teusday morning

Teusday Dec 30th

The weather here is mild for the season- home looks very pleasant- our lake not frozen- we took dinner unpacked and retired much fatigued- all well.

Wednesday Dec. 31st

This is a lovely day- just cold enough to be bracing- I started out at ten O clock in a hack to let my friends know that I had returned- I called on many and returned later at night- Inviting them to my house on Thursday- sister went with me-
