Canal St. and at 3 oclock took the "dummy" for Lake Pontchartrain, had a delightful ride of seven miles, met our new friend Miss Carleton & spent the afternoon walking and watching the vessels. The breeze was delightful & we did not get back till almost dark, to the City--Had a Call from Col. Perly & Major Glenn 8th [underlined] Wrote letters, recd' Mr [?Gensamiene's] receipt for making "Gumbo soup", by mail. Took rides all over the City in cars, went to see Mrs Auger & from there to the theatre, but could not get seats &
