with cold- did not go up town it raining too hard- made the acquinatance of Mrs Currie of Newport, also of an old gentleman name unknown (Johnson?). Dancing in Saloon as usual in which we did not join- took a Lemonade & went to bed at 11 oclock. 23rd Spent about half the day at Shawneetown talking in freight, the most of which was composed of coops of chickens. They were so crowded together that many of the chickens died & were thrown over board, The conditions of these poor crowded chickens kept me from going on deck as much as I otherwise would.
