Mr Ross again repeated, that we could not offer any further proposals under such a decision -- As the delegation would never consent to cede all the lands within the limits of those two states; -- that if Col. Mason would not dictate the basis upon which we were willing to negotiate, we would prepare a written proposition for his further consideration, and it shall be based upon a principle, such, as in our opinion, the Government can and in justice to the Cherokee nation, ought to, accept. Col. Mason said that he would receive and consider it and give us a written answer -- Mr Ross remarked that the Secretary of War, being a man, as well as himself and us, he may be induced by the force of reason and justice, to change his decision, and with that view, under all the circumstances of the case, we would prepare and submit a proposition for the consideration and acceptance of Col Mason -- And in case it should be rejected, we shall expect him to state the reasons why it cannot and will not be accepted.
