The tuft of hair upon the heads of the Indians of the present day, must have been derived from those Huns who settled in India, & probably adopted the custom of the Hindoos, to leave a tuft of hair upon the head, which they have done from time immemorial to this day. 2 Dubois 95, 178. The effect of which is, that the head shaved all around the tuft, & constantly exposed to the sun & weather, & to the water in swimming, has produced the thick skulls which are found with the larger skeletons in Tenessee; an effect unclear to be produced by similar causes in ancient times.
