“The Mexicans did not descend from the people in the north of Europe, either the ancient Germans or Scandinavians, but from people who worshipped the sun. Like them, they had the zodiac for the mystical representation of their deities; and like the Egyptians, and the most ancient settlers of India, raised pyramids for his worship, decorated with representations of days, months, years, and the sun’s path like the windings of a serpent, which they signified by the image of one.
