Resolved by the Committee and Council In General council Convened That the principal chief, John Rofs, he, and he herby, requested to communicate to Mr. Schermerhorn, the result of the proceedings of the General Council in reference to the appointment of a delegation consisting of himself, Richard Taylor, Lewis Rofs, John Martin, James Brown, James Daniel, Thomas Foreman, Richard Fields, Sleeping Rabbit, Joseph Vaun, John Benge, Template:Unclear, Elijah Hicks, John Hufs, John Baldridge, Peter of Aquohee, Jesse Bushyhead, John Ridge, Elias Boudinott and Charles Vaun, with full powers to represent the Cherokee Nation before the General Government of the United States, for the adjustment of the existing difficulties, upon such basis as may be deemed best fitted to secure the present peace and justice prosperity of the Cherokee people: and if practicable, to effect such an arrangement with any commissioner or commissioners of the United States Government who may be here upon the spot, provided the aforesaid Delegation are satisfied that such Commissioner or Commissioners possess adequate powers to complete such treaty arrangement : And if, for any reason, the aforesaid Delegation do no conclude a treaty here, upon the ground, that they are authorities to proceed to the City of Washington, there to negotiate finally with the General Government of the United States: Also, that the Cherokee People Assembled, have unanimously protested against selling their Country on the basis of the Five Millions of
