327 October 24th 1835 The people were accordingly called together, and, in open assembly, unanimously decided against treating with United States Government upon the basis of selling this country for the sum of Five Millions of Dollars. Then the following proceedings were adopted by them: We the people of the Cherokee Nation, in general council assembled so hereby solemnly protest agaisnt selling our country on the basis of the Five Millions of dollars and will never sanction any such Treaty. We approve of and confirm the nomination of and appointment of John Ross, Principle Chief, Richard Taylor, Lewis Ross, John Martin, James Brown, James Daniel, Thomas unclear, Richard Fields, Sleeping Rabbit, Joseph Vann, John Benge, unclear, Elijah Hicks, John Fluss, John Baldridge, Peter of unclear, Jake Bushyhead, John RIdge, Elias Boudinott, and C Vann, as our representations to the United States Government , also of the powers in them vested, under the resolution of the General Council unclear; And we Unite with the Committee and Council in forbidding any delegations to treat with the General Government of the United States of North America excepting the delegation now formally and openly confirmed by us, the people of the Cherokee Nation.
